A negotiation tactic you can use is to tell them it's a 240V socket to attach an electric heater for your garage, then negotiate a better price vs telling them you'll be getting the government EV charging incentive.
Not sure about Canada but kitchen stove plugs in the US are generally 30 amp max. If you got a L2 charger that was rated at 24 amps max then connecting the wires to the correct 240 volt plug in the garage should work.
I did the exact thing you described, with the previously installed stove plug on kitchen/garage wall. My installed line was a 40 amp, with a 14-50 wall plug. I bought a 32 amp jekayla charger from amazon, which plugged in with no changes necessary. That 32 amp charger fully uses all the capabilities of the clarity, I never had a full charge go longer than 2 hours and 5 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Anyone have any experience with the Tesla mobile charger with a Tesla Tap and their Clarity? The gen 1 supports up to 40 amps. Gen 2 supports up to 32 amps. The Tesla Tap will allow you to charge at all Tesla chargers anywhere ( except for Tesla superchargers ). If this is viable for the Clarity, will seriously consider this setup.
No reason it shouldn’t work. I have been seriously considering this exact same setup myself, installed with 6AWG wire to future proof. Pretty good chance I end up with a Tesla in 3 years and then only have to replace the breaker in that setup to crank up the amps to whatever max the new vehicle can handle.
