Source: I am not in the industry but this is a fine review of the current state of the 'consensus' about autonomous vehicle (AV) work. I was listening to the podcast while my Tesla Model 3 drove around Huntsville with my hands were in my lap, fiddling with the dogs, tweaking navigation, and otherwise enjoying the trip. For example, last night the latest Tesla firmware arrives and it further improved AutoPilot: (1) less 'fidgety' lane auto-steering, and; (2) better handling of 2-to-1 lane merging. Tesla AutoPilot driving is like having a slightly wild animal on a leash. You can lead it where you want to go but ignore it at your peril (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Only_Kill_Their_Masters).
