BMW intends to charge its customers a monthly subscription for features in their cars that they already paid for. In short the customer owns the car and must pay to repair it but BMW thinks it can ransom away a monthly rent fee on top of that or disable their property if they don't pay it. So BMW thinks it can trick it customers into paying it rent for the use of their own property. How is that for bs phone home spyware malware crippleware that picks your pocket. Ultra dumb is subscription on top of human rights killing sponsorship on top of behavioral surplus theft and sale- but this is dumbest of all. They surely have utter seething contempt for their customers thinking they are the greatest idiots ever. And as usual they are trying to pitch this rip off idiocy as something Tesla does or was doing first. Nothing could be farther from the truth. BMW is doing this because it is run by idiots. This is the kind of thing BMW thinks having an electronic platform will be useful for- literally ripping off their own customers. Its outrageous! It reminds me of AOL in the early days trying to charge people to access public domain data that was stored on their own PCs HDD for $3.95 per hour. Idiots don't create value they create liability and destruction of value. Imagine when people jail break this garbage. Will BMW be like the RIAA trying to break into people's homes or intentionally trying to brick people's hardware and install root kits. There was a time when the RIAA was literally imitating the police in the US trying to bust into people's homes and arrest them- they did it in pink suits or something like that. The headlight situation is utterly insane, decreasing the function of a headlight if someone doesn't pay the cripple-ware ransom- decreasing its function and therefore its safety! This is their modular hardware ideology taken to its limit with rip off type repetitive micro transactions. This is the best they can imitate Tesla. Can a company that dumb survive in the market? Not even with the most massive subsidies! Remember when Microsoft tried to tell people they would never be able to shut off their Xbox's connection to the cloud because of spyware and they had a camera trying to spy on people in their living rooms and the responsible exec who got off trying to glorify himself showing himself walking on football fields with NFL commissioners- but with utter contempt for end users and customers? The customer base rejected that so hard that that the exec was instantly gone banished to a backwater and MS lost that round of console generation it has been the better part of a decade in pain over. In the PS3 generation Sony as the heart of the RIAA almost went bankrupt and had its data dumped obviously by its customers and employees (but tried to blame an Asian state,) when it was failing it had it its employee one Dr. Evil type exec who main qualification was having gone to a special prep school. In the next generation MS hired that exec who presided of Sony's failure and failed for similar reasons. And after his helping to preside over the MS failure Google is has hired him to preside over its Stadia failure. Stadia is a product that should not have failed but you can see the same kinds of rip off mentality at work. When this guy was at Sony during the PS3 launch if you were a Korean developer Sony wanted $50 million up front and ownership of your IP. These kind of people can't calculate customer value propositions to save their lives, its all extortionate rent seeking and they utterly destroy businesses and company value. Business idiots are just as bad as state idiots. Look at the idiots pining for the useless totally stranded Libyan natural gas liabilities. Only a total fool would think natural gas will be allowed to play much of a role in EVs and there is no way in hell even coming total displacement of ICE can save even the best performing of existing natural gas let alone they junk they'd be trying to peddle. There is no way in hell natural gas contracts will be allowed to stand- they will go just the pipelines are being cancelled. You can never bind a government that doesn't want be bound or comes around to look at the obviously fraudulent terms of existing contracts- garbage gets vacated, that is the rule! Musk passing up the remaining Koch brother is just the latest sign. Think about the arrogance of Hillary Clinton and her trying to peddle social gloss in the face of raw political and economic oppression with symbolism for a hard shift to the already hard right (the H in her campaign logo had a red arrow to the right- wink, wink, nod, nod- and how many people on the current DNC aren't obvious white collar criminals?) think about how she was in essence more than anything else a Cheney type natural gas saleswoman and look where that got the world. A female Dick Cheney was supposed to be president because of her gender and nepotism and it was supposed to entitle her to it? Just thinking that the rate of diabetes in the US is up 100,000x and we know that is the fossil fuel industry petro fertilizers and pesticides and bt crops- in the US that is 34 million people- its also sugar or corn syrup which is more petrol chemical bs from mono culture inedible gm corn- 34 million preventable sicknesses the nation has to carry- compare that to CV.
