I wrote up a bit about the Honda Clarity Heater: https://carswithplugs.wordpress.com/2018/03/17/electric-car-heaters-honda-clarity/ To recap everything here: PHEV is Engine plus coolant based electric resistance heater (share core) BEV is Heat pump plus PTC resistance heater (heats air directly) This is why the EV range suffers significantly on the PHEV as soon as heater is used (as warm as 45F or so), however, I think the heater is more efficient than my Gen 1 Volt at getting heat into the interior. It gets warm very quickly and is much more comfortable on electric heat, which is surprising for a coolant heater, but people tell me the Bolt EV heater is similar coolant heater and much quicker than my Volt. Some diagrams backing this up: PHEV: BEV:
Great article and great to learn what the PHEV uses versus the BEV. Is any of this plumbing used to control the temp of the Lithium Ion battery?
Where were you able to find diagrams for this? I am trying to find the parts for the usb plugs as i’d Like to add two more
If you figure out how to add two more usb's I would love to know how. Those two dummy covers above the current usb plugs drives me crazy.
Why not just velcro a mini usb hub somewhere? My wife has our car out of town so I can't look, but it seems like a hub could be hidden somewhere near the current ports.
Any modification needs to be with factory parts to maintain a factory look. Some of us are nuts like that lol
Sure, search online Honda parts places: http://hondapartsnetwork.com/assembly/49/35/4/3839/4/27561/2018-Clarity-Plugin-Trng-Clarity-Phev-Continuously-Variable-Transmission-Console-FR No affiliation with above, find sites like that. I am not sure who is best to order from, I just find ones with nice diagrams online.
