Wow, this is interesting, Why test things that do not work well in public spaces? https://twitter.com/eiddor/status/1177749574976462848
The sun looked pretty low in the second attempt , I wonder if it affected the cameras. In the first attempt I think people moving around may have confused it. Still needs some tweaking - that's for sure
Cop pulls over empty Tesla..., haha. https://www.grandtournation.com/cars/video-driverless-tesla-gets-pulled-over-during-smart-summon/
Level 5 autonomy definitely has some legal implications to hurdle as well as many others https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-driving_car See potential limits or obstacles section. I agree with David on this one.
Kudos to Tesla for being willing to "take the heat" in releasing new software features while still in Beta mode. Too bad the other auto makers are so dedicated to playing it safe that they delay their own development of similar features, and also deny their customers the option of using the feature while still in "Beta" development mode! That's just one of many ways in which Tesla is superior to all other auto makers. It's also one of the reasons why Tesla is growing its market at an average of better than 50% per year, far faster than any other auto maker of any significant size. Keep going Tesla!
We are very, very far away from Level 4/5 autonomy. I think Waymo has achieved Level 3 autonomy, with its experimental fleet of robotaxis in a suburb of Phoenix. Everybody else, including Tesla in its production cars, is at Level 2 or at best, 2+. Tesla has shown video demos of cars operating at Level 3, but hasn't put that level of autonomy into production. "Smart" Summon certainly is no different; the warning screens for use state clearly that you must keep the car in clear view at all times while it's moving, ready to stop it if it gets too close to stationary or moving obstacles such as other cars. Smart summon is merely the parking lot equivalent of "Navigate on Autopilot", and quite clearly needs a lot of development before it's reliable even for use while being carefully monitored. Level 4 autonomy would mean it should be safe for use without needing any monitoring.
