Ken, I doubt if it does anything for glare. But I don't have a problem with glare on the center screen anyway.
I have no personal experience with this, but they sell tempered glass screen protectors for most if not all smart phones, so I would assume those don't block the touchscreen function. -
Ken, I doubt a glass screen protector will help cutting glare. But I can't say because I don't notice glare on the Clarity center screen.
Unfortunately when the sun is at the right angle, we get quite a bit of glare. It's particularly evident because the screen is right out front and not recessed as some car screens are.
Googling the subject, I see a comment stating "Anti-glare coating for glass is available in auto shops." I wonder if that could be successfully applied to a monitor screen, or to a protective glass cover added to one? Ideally, the protective glass cover should itself have an anti-glare surface treatment.
The Clarity center screen glass protector is now available from Amazon.com here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079L5VB5G
Jdonalds, thank you for the info and link. I just ordered one. Whoohoo!!! There is a $0.65 promotion going on so it’s only $12.34 and free shipping! I can go splurge on something else now.
Let us know how it is after you install it. Unless it reduces fingerprints and glare I don't see a real need for a screen protector in a car.
I agree with you 100%. The only reason I did this was to see if it actually reduces the fingerprints, because that does bother me (I'm constantly cleaning the Clarity's screen). The screen in a car is not like a cellphone that's thrown around, tossed in your pocket where there may be things to scratch the screen, and is simply subject to far more instances of damage. In a car, I can't recall ever getting a scratch on the screen. I don't even have on my mode Model S, but there I don't see the fingerprints like I do on the Clarity. So yeah, the only rationale for me is fingerprints. I'll let you know.
I picked one of these up and it didn’t fit quite right and didn’t stick well over the “buttons” I’ll be emailing the maker to provide feedback and see if anything can be done.
It's a pretty exact fit. It must be positioned so the edges aren't raised by the slight lip of the LCD panel. If the edge of the protector is on that lip it will keep the glass from seating all the way. I was able to lift the protector off, reposition it, and replace it. Also it helps to start one side and slightly bend the glass as it is lowered onto the screen.
Looking at comments for the Ruyina one it seems some batches are too large and don't fit properly. Anyone got one recently? There's another brand that also sells on amazon (which I got the one for my 18 Ody) but they don't have them available yet and want measurements.
Any verdict on the Ruiya (or other) screen protector regarding fingerprints ? I am looking to eliminate the fingerprints as much as possible.
That's a bummer. Any other options for the fingerprints other than wiping down regularly with a microfiber cloth ?
I got the Ruiya. VERY tight fit. Not sure if it was old stock or what but the top edges would not stick and ended up like a large bubble. Amazon gave me my money back but did not try a different one yet.
