I'm afraid they'll discover their clerical error if I try to upgrade. It's been so nice not to make any payments for the last 5 years. The minutes won't expire until 2030!

I was having same problem tonight when the Hondalink forced me to update but my old phone was also on Android 5.1. So I did a little bit work to make the Hondalink 4.0.2 be able to be installed on my phone.
I uploaded the modified apk file on my google drive so you can download it follow this link, it should work on your phone too

Thanks for trying to help. I deleted the HondaLink app and files, downloaded the program from your link, and installed it. When I clicked Open after installing, I hit the same old roadblock:

Sorry it doesn't work for you. But I can see the UI in your screen shot is still same with old version. Can you double check the app version (in setting/app/hondalink) to make sure it is 4.0.2?
If yes, can you please do the "clear cache", "clear data" and uninstall it and reinstall again? Make sure you install the file named "hondalink4.0.2_signed.apk"

I have just tried installing on another old 5.0 android phone and it still works. The start screen looks like this, so please make sure you have installed the right file.

I cleared the data and the apps cache, uninstalled, and reinstalled with the same result.
Edit: I just looked at the details on the file and it says 3.8.3-32, not 4.0.2 so I'll try downloading again.
Re-Edit: I've tried 10 times, but even though I see a downloading progress bar for a couple of seconds, I can't find any downloaded apk file in my file manager. Do I lack permissions?
Re-re-Edit: I see when I look at details of the file I'm trying to download that it's 45 MB, 5:30 am April 6, Owner is Chocolate room, and for permissions, "Viewers can download." Can't figure out what's happening when I click Download under No Preview Available or the download icon in the toolbar.
Minute-by-minute Edit: I quit trying to download to my phone, downloaded the apk to my PC and am now transferring it to my phone. Darn--so close! "Parse Error There is a problem parsing the package."

So I think you have installed wrong file. If you cannot download from Google Drive, this is the new link I have just uploaded on Box
So please make sure you install the file name hondalink4.0.2_signed.apkhttps://app.box.com/

@JJim, I really appreciate your dedication, expertise, and patience. I tried zipping the version I downloaded to my PC before transferring it to my phone. I still got the parse error. Using your box.com link, I was able to download directly to my phone. I still got the parse error. I deleted the file and downloaded from box.com to my phone again. Parse Error. In the olden days, you needed to specify you were transmitting a binary file to prevent programs from being misinterpreted as text, but I don't see any option for that. I tried transferring the box.com download from my PC to the phone, rebooted the phone, still got "Parse Error There is a problem parsing the package".

Ok Insightman, can you try one more time. The problem is your android OS is little bit older than mine, so I have reduced the API level of the Hondalink app to 19, this time it should work. Please download drom this link (you don't need to use the computer, just dowldown directly to your phone) and install again
    https://app.box.com/
    File name hondalink_4.0.2_api19.apk

HOORAY! Your brilliance, experience, and perseverance have made my day! THANK YOU @JJim! I was looking at replacement TracFones, but they're all so tall now that they wouldn't fit my front pocket. You've saved the day. Pat yourself on the back.

Update on my happy camper post. On my iPhone, I’m getting the % but now for the first time since purchase on 2/2018, I’m not getting the odometer to update. Grrrr!

Yeah, the odometer doesn't update consistently. Maybe every 6-8 weeks, or when it feels like it—whichever comes first.

Thank you JJim! I was in the same boat as Insightman but my Android version is 5.1.1. This worked perfectly!

Like Ken, I was forced to update the iPhone app last week. My odometer reading is correct, so it must be updating mileage at least occasionally. Looks like the SOC is no longer limited to 15% increments, which seems like a minor improvement. Still sometimes use the find my car function to force the update, but it now clearly displays the last time the SOC reading was updated, which I hadn't noticed in the previous version.

One major downside is that I can no longer precondition using the 120V charger at home. Before, I would charge overnight and then use the app to start a scheduled or manually set precondition. However, since the update, I can't precondition after charging at 120V. Anyone else notice this change? Clearly the Clarity CAN precondition with 120V, but perhaps Honda doesn't want it to. Has anyone indicated that preconditioning at 120V might be bad for the battery?

Can you precondition using the fob? If you could always do that, it doesn't make sense for Honda to start denying 120V preconditioning from the app. Oh, wait. Honda.

Have there been recent changes in your outdoor temperatures? We had a warm day yesterday with temps in the mid 60s. Last night, I parked at a L2 charger and on the way back to picking up the car, I started the remote climate. It said my inside-the-car temp was 66, when I got to the car, it was 63. The car determined I would want the a/c on at that temp so it cooled it down. You may be at a temp where the car does nothing because it is in the"optimal" range.

Well, spring in New England means that the temperature has always changed recently :) . It was chilly this morning and I couldn't start the heat with either the app or the remote while it was still plugged in (@120V). After unplugging, I could now use the app to start heating and, as expected, start draining the battery. After 10-15 minutes, I tried plugging back in and now it continued warming while maintaining charge.

So, with the current version of the app, I can unplug, then start heating and then plug back in to stay charged. Less convenient than a scheduled conditioning available with 120V before, but better than nothing. Maybe Honda will update the settings again so you can always use 120V to maintain SOC during preconditioning. Or maybe I'll have an L2 charger by next winter.
