Small issues/quirks

  1. Oh wow, that is uncool.

    I remember something, where somebody had some issue and they unplugged the 12V battery while the car was off to "reset" something.

    Not necessarily the best way, but might be an option?

    I saw something similar from someone on FB Kona EV group. I think she just turned the car off for a few minutes and started up and all was well. I will try to find her post.

    Edit: This is what I found and there was no follow up from her after she took it to dealership. "Has anyone had the door open icon remain on when all the doors are closed? This has happened twice in less than a week. The car is still driveable but no speedometer. The dealership says it might be a door sensor. I have not had a chance to get her in yet."

    I wondered if she had screwed in those black stoppers on the rear hatch that caused all the problems in the UK with open door messages. It was an easy fix with just screwing them tight. I did that with our Kona right away as we were having to slam hard to get it to close properly.

  5. First thing I would do is check the 12V battery see if it is at least 12.6 V and monitor the recharging voltage if it is lower ( small load applied)

  9. Basically to eliminate the 12V battery in the case of a lower than acceptable state of charge as the cause of intermittent electronics functions.
    By applying a decent voltmeter to the contacts of the battery terminals in an idle condition and then turning on some functions in the car (not climate control which is supplied by the big battery ) and measuring to see if the big battery is charging the little one ( lights, stereo, accessories etc).

  10. So here is a weird thing that I have experienced a few times:

    When I start the car and the HUD comes up, right towards the end of it I hear a squeeky sound. At first I thought it's the HUD but it's not there all the time and it's not always "synchronized" with the HUD, so it must be something else.

    Did anybody else have that sound?

    Also I just noticed something interesting:
    If you hold the left paddle just before you use the brake the Regen level increases. But if you touch the brake just before you hold the paddle it'll not.

  14. In the Alex on Autos Kona EV review he mentioned that the 0 Regen level was true coasting and that it was more efficient than using Regen. I was sceptical as I have been driving with a goal of maximizing Regen. But today I tried 0 level coasting. Man, I think he was right. You can roll forever! So different from a ICE car where the drive train drags so hard when coasting. In highway situations where I could see an upcoming traffic light a kilometre away or where I was approaching a speed reduction zone or on a big hill I simply coasted through. No Regen, no brakes, just very gradual slowing. Pretty amazing. Was it MORE efficient? I don't know. But I do know I used zero power for a loonooog time. I'm still going to use regen 2 and 3 for urban driving but I'm a coasting convert on the highway.

    Here's a small issue. There are two equally spaced dents (width of a pinky) about five inches outboard of the badge and two inches down on the tailgate. Since there is no paint loss (scratch) and the two are equally spaced, we wondered if they might be spot welds that have warped? Anyone else have two little dents? This is one that has warped the shadow of the bush outside (on the top). Thanks. hyundai dent.jpg

    Which stoppers are you referring to? The little black ones? Or the large ones by the hatch lock? The little black ones are simply press-fit in, there’s no screws.

    I honestly haven’t had a close look at the car at all. Still waiting for the weather to get warmer so I can wash it by hand and have a closer examination. I’ll definitly be keeping an eye on this though.

    They are the lift door itself. One on each side of the lifted door. Like two big black gum drops that you twist and tighten up.

    I shone a light at an angle (in a darkened garage) and ran my finger in the area you describe --- nothing detected.

    Mini question --- Our cars have Bluetooth hands-free phone system, and Bluelink Telematics. So what's up with the forward side body badges claiming "Blue-Drive" ?
     
  22. Blue drive is just a term for environmentally friendly engines I believe. I've even seen terms like that on VWs combustion engine cars.
