  1. A look on CarGurus.com shows 29 listings. The nice thing about the site is that it shows both the MRSP and the dealer's price. They are the same on most of listings, but there is one with a few $thousand premium.

  3. There's been so much hype among EV enthusiasts, and so little production, I wonder if that explains the apparent markup.

Just got off the phone with Capitol Hyundai in San Jose, CA. They said there is very high demand for the car and they are taking deposits. The mark-up currently is $3000 for the LTD, so the car would end up around $45k+. Seems quite steep. I think I will wait a little or look at Tesla 3 again.

  5. Yeah, that ($45,000, or $38500 after Federal tax credit) puts it into Tesla Model 3 Mid Range territory ($42,900, or $39150 after Federal tax credit before July purchase, 264 miles of range, 5.6-second 0-to-60)
It may also push some prospective customers toward the Chevy Bolt ($36,620 base MSRP, $29,120 after Federal tax credit if purchasing soon).

Hopefully relatively few people are willing to buy Konas with the markup, the strongest feedback to get dealers to stop this (aside from increased supply) is lost sales

I called around in San Diego County. Most dealerships are getting 4 - 8 of them which will arrive approx mid March or earlier. I actually purchased a red SEL from Franks Hyundai (National City) for the 37800 MSRP. They said if I purchased right away they would not mark up the price. So if you call around you may get lucky. But they are sure going fast.

    Poway - they have a 2500 markup
Escondido - They are taking deposits but are not sure if the price will be marked up
Carlsbad, Kearny Mesa, Lemon Grove - They are taking deposits, but no mention of a markup.
National City - You can purchase immediately without a markup.

  9. Yeah, depending on what I hear from dealers I might look into Model 3 as well. I really like it but think the premium Kona has better features for the price than the base Model 3.

But I'll definitely look into it again if dealers are not cooperating.

So they have started arriving in SoCal today. At least two dealers confirmed they received them.

They have been arriving since last week.

We are not marking them up at Frank in National City-Currently We have a white limited and a black ultimate on the ground right now. We have a few left inbound that are available to pre contract. Since we are marking them over MSRP we have been selling them fast.

So, $9K over sticker? Can you share what that was? Markup, extra goodies?

Yeah, steep markup, no extras, here is the sticker.

I didn't want to be the person that does this, I didn't buy a Volt until 2016 because I refused to pay the "markup", basically theft, but even back then, they drove them off the lot, sold them as used, and kept the $7,500 because people paid it.

I had 3 appts waiting behind me while I was there and another appt pissed that they didn't make it before me, wanting to buy it right there. I beat them by like 15 minutes.

I pay 7.75% tax ish and license fees, etc...
No extra charges, just dealer markup on top of that.

I was lucky enough to quickly notice about 10 days ago and lock in via an in-person pre-test drive deposit on an “Internet Sale” price on a Kona EV Limited from Pohanka Hyundai in Maryland.

The dealership staff has been quality to work with and they took delivery (of one Limited and one Ultimate) earlier this week. Obviously all parties were eager to get the sale done in February. I’m thrilled (and shocked honestly, given some of the reported final sale prices in “busier” US EV markets) to have completed the purchase yesterday at a few hundred dollars below MSRP. Early bird in this limited market gets the worm.

Bob Baker Hyundai in Carlsbad is currently selling at MSRP. I just got my SEL on Thursday (2/28) for $43K out the door. My tax was a bit higher because I live in Alameda county and the registration is based on zip code.

We just bought a gray Limited in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. All of the area dealers seem to be stuck on adding the premium to MSRP. We weren't looking to be the ones to pay a premium but in the end we did, albeit talked them down considerably. Only one short drive home so far but looking forward to more time behind the wheel!

Bought a Sonic Silver Ultimate on March 4th from Moreno Valley California dealership. They wanted 5K over MSRP. Got it for $750.00 over MSRP. They also had a Black Limited.
