  3. I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't mark this, my 8 month anniversary of waiting. So here goes:

I’ve been trying to work out the optimal charge range of the Kona EV that will increase the number of charge cycles and therefore prolong the life of the battery. I’ve found various sites that seem to agree the best range is short charges between 20-80%. Also avoid always topping up to 100% and using too many rapid charging (level 3).

If you have a few minutes this article does a really nice job at trying to figure out the mystery. It all comes down to how much reserve Hyundai is buffering at both extremes. They may be already “virtually” saving the battery for us - but this information is not made public.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this topic.

Have you had a hissy fit yet? Does your dealer have cancelled orders that he is selling before he gives you yours?

  6. There has been no activity whatsoever. My dealer said on Jan. 29th that the system showed my car was at port with a Feb. 20th ETA. He said he'd inform me if there were any changes in status. I've heard nothing so either it's still in port or, more likely, he hasn't bothered to check. There are currently several cars on lots within 100 kms of me. Unfortunately none of them have a light interior so are not an option. 1 week 'til the finish line or until Krakatoa.

I believe I used the phrase "I can buy a Kona with a light interior from another dealer" and I had a call within an hour that I could have the colour and interior that I had ordered. One week isn't so bad though after al you have been through.

  9. Don't feel left out, my story is almost identical ( July 17 pre-order).
Still another few days before I hit that 8th month plateau

  10. Oh, I know my case is nothing special. Sadly I think there are many, many more folks being similarly screwed around. A pox on Hyundai Canada.

I know you are teasing. But I have to say the Hyundai deposit and order system was a huge mess. I wouldn't advise anyone to pre-order. Just wait until they start to arrive and go to a dealer or several dealers and tell them what you want. It would alleviate all the angst and anger about how poorly they did things with the pre-orders. We factory ordered with Ford years ago and thought that 8 weeks was a long wait, but it was a seamless informed process. Not sure how Hyundai could make such a mess of pre-ordering, but it sure isn't good for their reputation. Yes I do love Alice though. lol And I will soon let bygones be bygones, but I still have a bit of whingeing left in me.

  14. This process will taint my vehicle experience until the day it's scrapped.

It's fading for me too. Hubby just read about Audi EV wait lists and the problems with their pre-orders. So Hyundai isn't the only company with issues.

    Yup agreed.
I just feel like these weeks of waiting for Wildeyed are worse and longer, because it seems like almost everyone else has their vehicles and are talking about them and asking/answering questions etc. Easier to wait with everyone when nobody has one, but now that everyone has one, waiting sucks.

The process might taint it, but the vehicle will try to make you forget it and win you back! Positivity my friend, hopefully 6 more days!

  20. Long time lurker here. We are now the proud owners of a ceramic blue Kona with grey interior. We actually cancelled our order when they asked for the non-refundable $1000 deposit back in November. We figured the Niro would be a better vehicle for us and reserved that instead.
Fast forward to this last week, on a lark, we dropped by the Hyundai dealer, saw it in the flesh and the EV grin started. Thought about it over the week, called the dealer up and lo and behold they had a cancellation on the exact same colour we were looking for...with a scrap it!! At that point we figured it was meant to be and jumped on it. Also found out the Niro was at least another couple of months away which made the decision even easier.
Anyhoo, loving the Kona! Just got it today. Can't wait to figure out all the goodies on it.

  22. Oops...I'm sorry Wildeyed. I know you've been waiting. I'm waiting in anticipation for ya too. :)
    It'll be worth the wait.
