Nope. It's a really strict lease, Honda HAS TO have them back at the end of the 3 years, there isn't a buy out option at all either. The weird thing is they give you 20K miles a year! I have never seen that in a lease, so they REALLY want you to drive these things. They must be a real experimental car, although this isn't their first electric, does anyone know how different this is from their Fit electric and it's powertrain?
There was suppose to be a winking smilie there not sure what happened. I assume you have to prove California residency? What happens if you need to move out of state?
The EV part is basically the same as the Accord hybrid, but with a big liquid cooled battery system. The Fit used an air cooled battery, and that was offered with unlimited miles plus collison insurance and maintenance. So these are test vehicles that I believe they analyze after they are turned in. Plus various crash tests are probably done.
If you move out of CA/OR while leasing the Clarity EV, you have to turn it in and terminate the lease. You can actually do so any time with 90 days written notice. If we turn ours in after 2 years, we will have paid $85/mo all in (including license & registration) when factoring in the OR rebate. Keeping it 3 runs it up to about $145. It is likely that lease extensions will be offered. they were on the Fit EV at a reduced price. We leased the Fit for almost 5 years, and they would have extended a 6th (but we wanted to move into a Clarity EV). The Fit EV was unlimited miles, all maintenance (they even put new tires on when they wore out), plus comp & collision with zero deductible. It was insured as a Honda Fleet car and all we had to carry was liability.
