I had this rattling at low speeds on uneven pavement, passenger side pillar. I pushed a couple of pieces of soft foam using a small screwdriver and managed to provide enough support so the pieces are now even.
From the many posts on our forum, there seem to be 4 areas reported as noise makers. 1 rattle in the A pillar mostly related to the tweeter grill and aasociated parts Helped by foam tape. 2 rattle between A pillar and dasboard where they meet. Also helped by foam and foam tape. 3 dashboard rattle caused by defective fan motor and blower. Fixed by replacing fan motor and blower. 4 wind noise from the from small triangular glass window at A pillar not being installed and/or sealed correctly. R&R fixes it. All are warranty covered repairs.
Thanks for useful summary. It took me a year to find where the raffle come from on my 2015 Camry which the dealer doesn't help. I am lucky with my quiet Clarity, at least till now.
Took mine to the dealer this past weekend. They said I had a "loose bolt" underneath the car that was causing a slight knocking noise when I went over bumps, etc. They fixed it. They also fixed the driver's side dash where the airbag meets the windshield. No charge for any of it. I was out of town and haven't been able to follow up on the details but will update once I find out more.
Is there a service bulletin or some other documentation that I can refer my dealer to for the A pillar rattle problem?
There is no SB for the A pillar rattle. The best you can do is to inform the service advisor that there are several posts on this forum about it so it is a common source of a rattle. Also you could show him or her that pressing the pillar with your hand can make it go away. All it needs is some foam or foam tape.
My dealer, Autonation Honda in Roseville, CA, did the foam fix for the A pillars perfectly, first try. Maybe if your dealer doesn't know how to do it they could seek their advice. Service writer James Harding is well versed in the procedure. Guess I'll owe him lunch if this winds up taking alot of his time! Sent from my SM-N910V using Inside EVs mobile app
I have noticed a rattle within the last couple weeks that wasn't there before. If I'm driving on a perfectly smooth surface (like a newly paved road), I don't hear anything. But once I'm driving on a normal road and driving over 20mph, it starts to rattle. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the dashboard, but to be honest, it's very hard to identify where it's coming from. Do you think my rattle is due to the same cause that most people are talking about on this thread?
When it's happening, try putting your hand on the windshield pillar near the little speaker. If that doesn't stop it, try pressing gently on other areas at the edges of the dashboard, especially the seam where the windshield pillar trim meets the dash top. If you can stop it, your dealer, or you, can try stuffing short lengths of felt or foam in various places. I think everyone here has fixed the problem this way. Have only owned the Clarity going on 4 weeks. Two weeks in, I noticed the rattle. Because of this thread I was able to rectify it quickly. I popped off the A pillars and fixed the speaker rattle. Easy fix really...and I do say thanks to the folks on this board for the heads up...those rattles can be hard to locate. Info like this really helps new owners out. Thanks!
Just a week ago I began getting a significant rattle on passenger side over bumps. Will get it checked out .
I have the small wind noise issue on the driver side. Took it to the dealer left the car there for a couple of days and insisted the sales who sold me the car drive and verified he heard the noise. Took it to their service and ended up coming back saying its in other New clarity so its fine. Can you share what is R&R? It bothers me when I'm on smooth pavement without radio. Once up to freeway speed in southern California with how bad the freeways can get I don't hear it. At this point is not a huge deal but it's like a itch you can't scratch. Just annoying. Thanks.
Does it kind of feel like a window is slighty opened ? I have that too but I thought it was just the mirror .
Have them check the sealing of the small triangular window at the bottoms of the A pillar. There have been posts that it can be a source of windnoise. One poster had to have it replaced/resealed. Hope this helps make your Clarity perfect.
Yup. It sounds like the window was not fully closed and just the slightest crack. Happens above 25mph or so
I have had my clarity since January, and right away I noticed a rattle that seems to come from the overhead near the sunglasses compartment. It happens on rough pavement between 20 and 30 mph. It sounds like something is rattling in the sunglasses compartment but it is empty. Been back to dealer three times. They say they re-torqued whatever bolts are up there, but rattle returns within a day or so.
I reported my A-pillar rattle to my dealer. They said that stuffing the area with foam, as everyone else seems to have done, is a short term approach, and instead ordered the following parts: 91561-SDB-A02 GROM, PILLAR GARN 91560-SZW-003 CLIP, DOOR LINING 84152-TRT-A01ZA CAP, L. FR Is my dealer better-informed than others, or barking up the wrong tree? PS: They also installed service bulletins 18-090 and 18-091, and ordered parts for 18-089 and 18-096.
Tangible: My Clarity is now silent as can be....I did not require any parts. I did the A pillar work myself and between a couple pieces of double sided tape and some self stick foam insulation at the base of the pillar...been silent for over a month. Really not that big a deal to fix. Maybe they found some other issues with your situation. Keep us posted. Good luck!
