Just curious if anyone has bought the 2018 Sonata PHEV and/or thoughts/comments on it ?

I am looking at the Honda Clarity PHEV but just wanted to check out the Sonata option.

Don't see much chatter at all on the interwebs.

I was looking at PHEV sedans a few months ago.
I couldn't abide by the Clarity's very small pass-through space between the passenger cabin and the trunk. I suppose if you own a truck then that's not important.
Liked the idea of the Hyundai battery warranty. Since it's getting closer to the 2019 Sonata PHEV launch (they said end of year!) I am looking forward to seeing what that warranty actually covers.

I like Honda, and have owned several Hondas, but it looked like a mail slot...and I think the trunk itself was rather small too.

On the plus side, there are actually Clarity's available for sale, while the 2019 Sonata is AWOL at dealerships.

Some even have 2017 brand new models still available.

    Hmmmm.

I am hoping that the 2019 comes with a much larger electric-only range. Otherwise, I'll probably buy a 2017 model...if they still have them. The price should be right.

There is no extra room for a larger battery in the Sonata PHEV. They basically just added a charger, larger motor and an extra battery pack to the HEV model.

The Clarity with it's bigger battery, simpler design, liquid cooled battery, and an electric cabin heater means it pretty much beats the Sonata PHEV in things that are important to me in a PHEV.

I have the 2016 model Sonata PHEV and had I known Honda was coming out with the Clarity, I would waited and got the Honda.

Without an electric cabin heater, the Sonata PHEV is pretty much a California climate car.

Interesting. I'm in California (Southern) so that's the climate I have. :) I'm more interested in the AC capabilities....LOL

Do you know that they're not making major changes for the 2019 model of Sonata? Right now I can't find any actual verifiable information about the 2019 Sonata PHEV whether they're making any major improvements or just doing some cosmetic stuff..

Would love to have a longer battery-only range, but I really am getting interested in the details of the battery warranty that Hyundai offers. Just ordered the paperwork from a local dealer.

They SAY lifetime...but I want to see exactly how it's written. This is a car that will stay with the house (solar panels) for a very long time and that lifetime battery warranty sounds great.

Anyone have any thoughts on Hyundai warranties?
And anyone have any insight into the 2019 sonata PHEV specs?

It's not even on the Hyundai website!! :-(

I thought that the 2018 was just an extended 2017 release...they didn't actually MAKE a 2018 model...the local dealer said they were just selling the 2017 longer....

Some dealers do have the models listed as 2018, maybe it is just a 2017 internally.

BTW, I went ahead with the 2018 Honda clarity mainly for the EV range (47 miles).

    Sonata may be next time...

Nice choice. Clarity is a decent EV car.
