I got the exact same answer from both Honda Canada and the dealer. My car just arrived a few days ago. The dealer said most people are getting their cars now. I ordered at the end of March. If you signed the deal prior to the cancellation of the rebate and get the car before September 10, you’ll be fine.
When you say most people are getting their cars now, does that include Base models or just Touring models?
Word of advice on dealing with the police for having too dark tint on the front side windows. Anything darker than 70% and they can justify a ticket. Aside from Quebec that actually states a %, most provinces talk in terms of the officer needing to be able to clearly see you through the driver and passenger front windows. So, if you ever notice the police doing a double take at your tint, roll the window down and give the officer a clear view of your face. It completely takes away his argument for ticketing you (ie tint was too dark I couldn’t see his face clearly). A rolled down window gives him a view equivalent to a 100% tint, which is better than untinted windows which are usually a 97-98%. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Honda Canada is really showing no respect to customers in this matter. Perhaps their systems cannot correlate manufacturer orders with dealer orders, but they could provide some guidance to dealers. @Mikep00 -- any thoughts on what happens if dealers don't deliver by September 10?
I've got to say my dealership experience has been disappointing. Car was only charged 50%, the obscure stickers covering the rear windows was left on. Glue on the paint from the wrapping and I asked them to check the computer for the HV calculation error and they said its up to date and my HV range is showing over 600km at the moment. Hardly fixed. Why do we pay PDI again?
When your vehicle doesn’t arrive by September 10, you’ll have to decide between 3 choices. 1. Don’t buy a Clarity/buy something else. Least hassle, least cost, but very disappointing. 2. Let them deliver a 2019 in lieu of the 2018 they failed to deliver. Then, A) accept the 2019 be happy, and leave it at that. Most expensive, less hassle. B) proceed to small claims court to try and recoup your rebate. Most hassle, minimal risk, will take a long time to complete (plan for 2 years start to finish) Given the dollars at stake, and the minimal cost going to small claims, as long as you can afford to buy the Clarity without rebate and be able to wait 2+ years for the money, that seems like the best option. Now that the rebate is officially cut off, the alternative resolutions that may have been possible would no longer work. So it really is the choice of small claims or walk away. If I had to go to small claims for the rebate I would sue dealership, Honda Canada, appropriate branch of Ontario government, and Doug ford. It is still just one application and no extra work on your part, but naming everyone means nobody can try and blame someone else, because that someone else would be a party in the suit. Given the cost to defend claim at trial of everyone involved, their lawyers would advise they settle. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
My alternative strategy was to walk away and wait for the cheapest Model 3 to be released. I’ll bet a lawsuit would be fruitless and getting a refund would be better. You can also try to bargain and get the get best price on another Honda model.
Problem I see with #1 is if the car is coming post Sept. 10th and you don't buy. Then the dealer could potentially sue you back for not holding your end of the contract up.
In Ontario, as long as you have waited at least three months, you have the absolute option of walking away from the deal. OMVIC specifically protects the buyer from a dealer not delivering for more than 3 months. That's why (I suspect) my dealer said it would be delivered within three months, which would have qualified for the rebate. 4 months and counting now. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I originally thought the same, but I couldn't find that wording on the OMVIC website. Does anyone have a link that states that we can walk away from a deal after 3 months?
my clause is similar but not identical to this one. I'll try to send it as well when I get home. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Are you in Ontario? If so, you have the out after 90 days. It’s that simple. Dealer is required per OMVIC. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Okay checked. I do have a clause that is similar. But it was 120 days. Which is fine anyways as my agreement was signed back in March. 120 days have passed.
Brantford Honda had it done for us. They outsourced it from somewhere in Brantford, Ontario. It was one of the things we negotiated along with our dealer winter floor mats.
