I'm a happy Clarity PHEV owner since mid-May. I have a couple of accessory questions.

Has anyone found a way they particularly like to mount a cell phone on the dash? Being an iPhone user that prefers Google Maps -- particularly for the offline map feature -- CarPlay doesn't do it for me (not to mention that my aging 5s periodically drops its USB connection, so Bluetooth has been my connection of choice, but I do like to glance peripherally at the screen while navigating since the timing of GM's prompts can lead one to turn one street too early). In our old car we have an iottie windshield mount phone holder, but that doesn't seem to viable in the Clarity. I've simply set the phone in the groove created by the info display and leaned it against the vents, but it tips over occasionally when turning.

Also, does anyone have a specific lumbar cushion and/or seat pad they've put in their Clarity and are happy with? I haven't tried any yet but I gather not all pads fit all seats.

    Thanks in advance!

I used to use the kickstand on my phone case to prop up my phone in landscape mode right above the center display. It worked well because I could charge the phone with the USB port on the side, and in landscape mode, the phone wouldn't topple over. The only problem was that my kickstand eventually broke because there was too much pressure on one side of the kickstand.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking of using a small piece of cardboard that sits above and right behind the center display and that reaches up to the top of the dash above the vents. That should work like my old kickstand. The only disadvantages are that the center vents are blocked, the bottom few millimeters of the phone are blocked, and I need to manually set up and take down the cardboard each time.

If you don't mind the phone on the left side, I find the small window perfect for a suction cup mount. I have been trying to put a mounting plate on top of the fake wood in front of the middle vents. I need something that the suction mounts can stick on. I have tried the glass from a picture frame, a tile and a laminate wood sample. I plan to stick it on using the 3m dual lock.

We use a magnetic mount. This one has a small plate that we stuck to the shift wing. The whole magnetic mount, minus the small plate, can be removed because there are magnets on both the top and bottom. The magnets are very strong. I use the same mount on my computer desk at home.

I too prefer having access to the phone screen while driving, so I use a Scosche magnet mount on the flat dash trim to the left of the steering console. It is very visible at a glance, but stays out of the way of driving view. The magnet mount holds well, but the suction has failed a few times. Need to try to really clean off the wood trim before attaching it again.

Being the fat, old, lazy cuss that I am, I refuse to have to plug/unplug a cable every time I get in the car when I want to do more than Bluetooth calls, texts and music. I found this holder with a spring top part that I just push up with my iPhone and set down into the Lightning Connector. Then just pull up and out to remove. Only downside is that it’s $25 on EBay.
    Here is the link:

Sorry about the picture. I could only figure out how to copy it to Adobe (no teenager at home any more for tech support).
Also, jdonalds has the right plan for mounting to the faux wood that has faux grain that is just enough to slowly defeat vacuum holders. I too used the adhesive plate to then mount the holder.

Or you can wait for iOS 12. Google Maps and Waze will be supported. https://9to5mac.com/2018/06/07/carplay-ios-12-improvements/

How did you get a two-tone steering wheel? Is it a cove?

Yes, it's just a cheap leather cover!

I've installed wireless charging vent mounted cell holders on the left side on our Clarities then routed the USB cable under the shroud beneath the steering wheel to plug in under the centre console.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. For an iphone holder, I ended up ordering one of these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FHX9OK

It arrived today and here's where I put it (I took the picture with the phone so it's not in the holder): IMG_2008.jpg

We're trying a few low tech solutions for lumbar support after an unsuccessful local purchase of a Kraco product, since returned.

  16. I mount it below, thinking outside the box.

Thanks for posting this! I have same iOttie phone mount but couldn’t figure out where it should go. Mounted mine similar but on passenger side front of center bridge. I’ll attach a photo tomorrow.

iOttie has a great suction mount.

Here’s a couple photos of my iOttie phone holder suction-attached to passenger side under the bridge thingy. Love the location while driving. Only downside is that passengers will likely bump with their knee. Will have to see how that works out. (Big thanks to Michael Borquez... up above there for the idea!)

I had an iOttie in my previous car and can vouch for them. Great value.

Me, I'm waiting for the iOS update and I'll use Waze, which is the only thing I miss, via CarPlay.

For lumbar support, I took my roll pillow and covered it in cream marine vinyl so it would match the seat.
